WHICH CLUSTER OF EXCELLENCE ARE YOU INTERESTED IN ?
The Auvergne region has developed several genuine sectors of excellence, such as agri-foods, health and nutrition, materials, wood and information technology.
These business clusters are supported by wide-ranging and highly pertinent training and education courses, as well as by recognised research and technology transfer organisations.
In 2005, the Auvergne region was awarded three « national scale » competitivity clusters: for cereals, meat and mechanical engineering.
The « Innovation in cereals » cluster, a partnership principally between Limagrain and INRA, aims to improve seed selection techniques so that for example, products more suited to nutritional need can be developed. It also aims to manufacture a biodegradeable plastic from the chemical content of cereals.
The « Meat and meat products » cluster, led by the Meat Institute Development Association, has safety and hygiene as its guiding principles. It should be noted that Clermont-Ferrand possesses 80% of the national research and development resources for the meat sector.
The « Via Méca » cluster is a grouping of the aeronautical and industrial equipment industries from six regions, including the Auvergne. Its aim is to create new materials to make vehicles lighter, for example; or to ensure better operational reliability for mechanical systems.
